City Councilor Yvy Emano expressed her support for Councilor Girlie Balabaโs Special Report calling for the preservation of Buluaโs pottery-making tradition. Councilor Emano pushed for the inclusion of Pottery NC II in the courses offered by TESDA, emphasizing that a national certification would not only safeguard the cultural heritage of Bulua but also sustain the craft as a viable livelihood for future generations.
She added that once Pottery NC II is realized, she would recommend to the Committee on Senior Citizens that senior citizens become the pioneering class, providing them with new livelihood opportunities.
โAs former chair of the Committee on Senior Citizens, I have long envisioned pottery as a way to preserve our heritage while supporting our eldersโ welfare. TESDAโs Pottery NC II can make this vision possible,โ Emano said.
She also supported Councilor Des Dahino’s call to integrate pottery into the education curriculum, noting that formal training will encourage the youth to appreciate and continue the tradition.
Her remarks highlights the City Councilโs growing consensus to revive traditional crafts such as pottery as part of Cagayan de Oroโs cultural identity and sustainable development.
